When Was Deacon Frey Born? His Childhood Details

He was born on 17th April 1993, in the United States of America. As of 2022, Frey’s age is, in fact, 28, while some other sources suggest that the emerging singer is only 26. Back in April 2019, Eagles Fastlane posted a beautiful photo of Deacon in the celebration of his 26th birthday. They wrote,

While most of his early details remain out of the media, Frey is an American as per his nationality and belongs to mixed ethnicity. He is of French-Canadian, English, Irish, and Scottish descent from his father’s side.

Deacon Frey Father’s Death

His superstar dad Glenn passed away on 18th January 2016 at the age of 67. He died due to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia at Columbia University Medical Center, New York. He was placed at the medical center in November 2015 to have the surgery. However, the singer never came out of the coma and then died in Jan of the following year.

In Jan 2018, his widow Cindy (Deacon Frey’s mother) filed lawsuits against Mount Sinai Hospital and gastroenterologist Steven Itzkowitz for their reported negligence to properly diagnose and treat Frey.

Post Glenn Frey’s Death: His Son Deacon Has Taken Over His Role In ‘Eagles’

Following the loss of Eagles’ frontman Glenn, fans were curious to know who would fulfill the place of the late artist in the band.

In Sept 2017, Don Henley, the band’s drummer and a solo artist told The Seattle Times,

“It’s very strange to be on the road without him. It’s just odd. I don’t know if I will ever get completely accustomed to it.”

But, Henley revealed that his son Deacon will play his father’s role in the band to keep Grey’s spirit alive. He said,

“It’s uncanny, I feel Glenn’s spirit is very near. I look out from the drums to where Deacon is standing and his hair is exactly the same as his father’s was in 1976. He’s taller, but looking at him from the back there, it’s freaky.”

Talking to Dallas sports talk station KTCK, an accomplished drummer further explained about him,

“Glenn’s son Deacon is a very talented young man, and He seems to be up for the task.”

Henley added that the young boy is, “enthusiastic about it and he’s been working real hard on it, and he’s gonna do it with us. And I think that’s appropriate.”

Deacon First Performance With Eagles at Classic West

The 28-year-old son of late singer Glenn was interested in music from an early age. But, his big break only came when the Eagles decided to take him in the place of his own father after Glenn’s passing in 2016.

He made his live concert debut with the band on July 15, 2017. Their stage took place at Classic West at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with band members Vince Gill, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit. It was also their first-ever performance since Frey’s death.

In Spet of the year, Deacon also performed at their Classic West and Classic East shows. Although it was a crowded stage of over 50k people, Deacon did his best. And his praise-worthy performance at the concert as the frontman of The Eagles also led him to many band’s big tours.

Is Deacon Frey touring with the Eagles? His Illness Left Him Behind

The rock band Eagles began their Hotel California 2022 tour in Savannah, Ga. However, Deacon who has been with the band since his father’s death in 2016 seen missing at the stage. And as per the Facebook post made by the band on 17th Feb 2022, it looks like Deacon will not be there for a few more days.

The band said due to Deacon Frey’s illness, the vocalist was unable to tour with Eagles. They wrote on their Facebook page,

“Due to illness, Deacon Frey will not be performing with the Eagles during their “Hotel California 2022 Tour” kicking off Saturday, February 19th at the Enmarket Arena in Savannah, Georgia. Deacon’s bandmates will take over his tour duties in his absence.”

Eagles further wrote that his decision to resume with the band, “will be based on his recovery and doctor’s recommendations.”

However, Deacon himself hasn’t confirmed anything about his illness to date. Hope the singer has a speedy recovery!

He Has Two Siblings

Deacon spent most of his childhood days with his two siblings; a sister named Taylor Frey and a younger brother Otis Frey. His sister, born in 1991 is now the road manager of Eagles. She joined the band in June 2017 and has still been together with them.
