Samuel E. Wright is a former actor who also has built a highly successful path as a voice actor and singer. He made his breakthrough after rendering the lead vocals to the Academy Award-winning song ‘Under the Sea’ in the hit Disney animated film version of  The Little Mermaid.

The actor also has deserved credit for his work in The Lion King and Dinosaur (2000). Meanwhile, he is enjoying a happy marital bliss with his wife and kids.

Samuel E. Wright was born on 20th November 1946, in Camden, South Carolina. He grew up in his hometown Camden along with his family and also did his schooling from there. 

Wright holds a mixed ethnicity and belongs to Canadian nationality. 

Samuel E. Wright Performed ‘Under the Sea’ In Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’

Starting his acting journey with a small role in a 1988 film, Bird, Samuel E. Wright gained rave attention after providing a voice to the character named Sebastian in The Little Mermaid.

He also performed the track Under the Sea in Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Composed by Alan Menken, 70, an Academy-Award-winning artist, the song was turned out to be the megahit, winning the Academy Award under the category of Best Original Song in 1989 and Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media in 1991.

The single also featured in many other acclaimed projects such as the Square Enix action RPG Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II

Additionally, Wright provided the voice to another song Kiss the Girl in Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated feature film The Little Mermaid

The remake of the 1989 animated Disney movie The Little Mermaid is set to release in 2020. Directed by Rob Marshall, the movie is based on Hans Cristian Andersen’s 1837 fairy tale.  

Atlanta-native Halle Bailey, 19, is one of the cast members of the project. Many emerging talents like Melissa McCarthyAwkwafina, and Jacob Tremblay, would also appear in the film alongside some prominent names Megan Fox and Keith Powers as well.

Prior to his acting career, Samuel E. Wright also has tired his hands in the world of music. In 1973, he released There’s Something Funny Going On followed by Three Hundred Pounds of Hungry.  

Is Twice Tony Award-Nominee 

Samuel E. Wright got his first nomination even before his professional career took off. His performance in The Tap Dance Kid brought him the first Tony Award nomination in 1984 for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.

Similarly, Wright got his second Tony Award nomination again in the same category after portraying the original lead actor for Mufasa in The Lion King, in 1998. 

He Once Started His Own Drama School 

Samuel E. Wright is retired from acting after his last on-screen performance in The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning in 2008. Following his retirement, the former moved to New York City and began his own drama school, Hudson Valley Conservatory in Walden.

Samuel E. Wright has been sharing a blissful married life with his wife Amanda Wright for years now. The couple has clandestine regarding their married life.  

They share three children Keely, Dee, and Sam. Further details of their kids are still missing.
