Meet Jack Sock Parents: Here Are Things You Never Knew

Jack Sock is a professional tennis player who has won a Wimbledon in doubles and several other ATP silverware. Sock once was the hottest candidate to end the drought of the American men without a Grand Slam title.

Like many other tennis players, Sock, too, has a story of how he made it to pro tennis. Two people have been mentioned in the retellings again and again; his mother and father.

Jack Sock Parents And Their Relationship

Jack is the son of Larry and Pam Sock. Larry and Pam, according to the former’s Facebook, married on July 30, 1989, in Hawaii.

Jack’s mother’s original name is Pamela Sue. Pam is Larry’s ten-year junior. It however is undisclosed how the two met each other. The parents of Jack Sock have also hardly appeared in one frame. In fact, Jack’s mother, Pamela isn’t as exertive with her socials as her husband and Jack’s father.

Jack Sock Father Larry Worked As A Financial Advisor For Years

Sock’s father, Larry used to work as a financial advisor. Larry who is a native of Norfolk, Nebraska now is the senior vice president of wealth management at UBS Financial Services. The Sock Sr claims that his company provides extensive financial planning specialists and knowledge in wealth planning.

Larry joined UBS Financial Services in Feb 2009 and has been an integral part of the firm ever since. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement. Before UBS, Sock was a senior financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, Lincoln Nebraska for more than 27 years, from Jan 1982 to Feb 2009.

Larry Sock, furthermore, was the president and board of directors for the Nebraska Golf Association.

The Sock patriarch, Larry studied Business Administration at Oklahoma State University (1973 to 1976). He apparently also studied BBA with a minor in marketing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Jack Father Larry Was A Collegiate Golf Player

The longtime Nebraska resident, Larry Sock was also an athlete for NCAA. He however played golf for Oklahoma State but later moved to the University Of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is also a multiple-time Nebraska amateur golf champion.

Sock’s father, Larry, in the meantime, is still a fan of golf. He often visits and plays at recreational clubs. The father of two is also a volunteer, serving on the Board Of Directors for Junior Achievement in Lincoln Nebraska.

Jack Sock’s Grandparents (Also Larry’s Parents)

Larry was the son of the late Gene Shock and his late wife Donna. Gene, who died in June 2015, was a local businessman. He worked in organizations like the Norfolk Chamber Of Commerce, Norfolk Catholic Schools, Norfolk County Club, and Knights Of Columbus.

In 1987 Larry’s father and his mother moved to Atlanta Georgia and there they ran family furniture stores until 2005. Like Larry himself, his father, too, was a golf aficionado.

Jack’s paternal grandmother (also Larry’s mother) Donna died in March 2019. Similar to her late husband, Donna was also active in Norfolk Catholic Schools and Norfolk Country Club. Later she was involved with Atlanta’s St Brendan’s Catholic Church, and Alpharetta Bridge Club.

Larry also has three siblings, all brothers. He apparently is the second son of Gene and Donna. According to a 2015 record, his brothers are Ron of High Point, North Carolina, Randy of Roswell, Georgia, and Jim of Alpharetta, Georgia.

On the other hand, however, not so much is known about Jack’s mother, Pam, or her family. It nonetheless has been presumed that she works in the horse breeding business.

Jack Sock Parents Sacrificed A Lot For His Career

Sock says his parents have a huge contribution to making him a pro tennis player. Once while speaking of that with Sports Illustrated, the former Olympic Gold medalist said,

It starts with family – they’ve sacrificed so much for me, with my parents moving away from each other when we were young, for tennis.

Sock furthermore revealed his dad stayed in Lincoln to work while his mother accompanied him to Kansas City for his weekend training.

In fact, when Jack later relocated to Kansas City, his parents couldn’t live under the same roof with his mother moving with Sock and his older brother while their father stayed in Lincoln to keep his job as a financial advisor.

Sock Has An Elder Brother

Jack has an older brother Eric Shock who also plays tennis. Jack practiced with his brother at the Mike Wolf Tennis Academy. In high school, the brother duo also practiced doubles. Together they also won the state championship. Similar to his brother, Eric is also a former student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Jack’s older brother, Eric has played some ATP matches but he has never won a duel to get enough points for the ATP rankings.

Eric now is a tennis professional at Elite Squad Tennis Club. He formerly also worked in the health wellness and fitness industry.

Back in Jan 2015, Eric was in the news for his critical health due to Lemierre’s syndrome. Jack later in an interview revealed how, at the time, the doctors informed him that his older brother had only hours to live. Eric reportedly contracted bilateral pneumonia in both of his lungs. The infection affected his liver, lungs, kidney, and heart all in one day.

Jack’s brother, fortunately, survived after the doctors removed all of his infections.
